Tag Bytes | Agent Crush is an all-new style of motion picture, written and directed by Sean Robinson. (That's him on the right...) |
Shunning the industry-wide fixation with CGI, the entire production instead embraces traditional old-school movie making - detailed model work and elaborate hand-crafted sets - but with a twist...
For the first time in a generation, traditional age-old special effects methods have been combined with modern filming techniques & state-of-the-art mechanical technologies - reinventing and reinvigorating the medium.
Utilising the expertise of the team behind Walking With Dinosaurs, puppet animatronics have taken a giant leap forward in realism, precision, expression and characterisation.
Miniature mechanics take a quantum leap over anything that has gone before. Example: despite their size, the puppet’s heads conceal ten independent motors that control facial expressions alone!
Previous generations - often limited to very basic mouth and eye movement - have been surpassed by a new generation of design. Added flexibility from a complete 'human' style skeleton adds to the 'personality' of the characters, and gives them a diverse range of abilities.
Even the fingers on their hands have a full 'human' range of movement. The result is something unlike anything that’s gone before. To quote Ioan Guffudd (voice of Agent Crush) “The result is incredibly unique and so cool.”
Sean Robinson (writer/director) learnt his skills from the late legendary Derek Meddings, an industry visionary whose accomplishments ranged from designing all of the original Thunderbirds vehicles, to bringing a new level of realism to effects in films such as the Superman movies (1978-83), Batman (1989) and numerous Bond movies.
Running to a tight schedule, and with a streamlined approach to set-up’s and filming, it’s been suggested that the production moved at least 10 times faster than the average big budget movie!
All of the best action movie traditions are there, complemented by modern ideas: a fast-paced script and a story packed with sharp humour and high speed action; with lovable characters and detestable villains; all taking place in exciting locations.
All of the crew, from set dressers to production, are firmly established in the industry; the combined experience of each team runs into many decades.
Over 60 different sets were created for Agent Crush – every single one built by hand – no existing locations or sets were utilised, and all were built from scratch for a wholly created natural environment. Everything you see on screen - even familiar landmarks - was built in the studio!
The same applies to the vehicles – tanks, cars, trains, air and spacecraft. All were fully realised in concept paintings before being turned into physical creations by the model workshop.
The action takes place in locations all over the World - as well as above it and below it!
